Preface#
I took two days off for the Dragon Boat Festival and went home for five days. I rarely come back to my long-lost home, only once or twice a year. Taking advantage of this rare free time, I finally finished reading the renowned "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
A Few Thoughts#
The days of returning home passed by quickly, even faster than the days at work. We repeated the cycle of waking up, having breakfast, preparing lunch, taking a nap, and waiting for the night to come. In the countryside, where there is no need for labor, there are no morning bells or evening drums, and there is a strong desire for both internet and food. Looking at my older sister, who is raising two boys around the age of 10 on her own, I couldn't help but feel emotional. Once a woman becomes a housewife, she becomes further and further away from her own brilliant life. The endless scolding of children and the unavoidable chores, especially in a not-so-well-off family, make such a life torturous. But I am just an observer. Previously, there was still a spark in her eyes, but now it has disappeared.
The Fame of the Lord of the Rings#
In my collection of disks, I downloaded and loaded these three movies. Since each one is quite long, I never found the complete time to watch them. So I could only bring them back home and watch them using the projector at home. The viewing experience with the Z8X was pretty good. Although it couldn't display the 1080P quality, it was enough to patiently watch these three movies.
JRR's novels are very famous. Some people compare the Lord of the Rings to China's Journey to the West. The background is also fantasy and magic. However, it is even more hardcore than Journey to the West, with the backdrop of the kingdom's army fighting against evil forces. On one side, there is a nine-member ring protection team, and on the other side, there is mutual assistance between the armies, fighting the enemy together. The heroic scenes of riding horses still make men envious, and the fierce battles of the Riders of Rohan are even more inspiring. Especially with several episodes of life and death romance intertwined, the work becomes more fulfilling.
Viewing Experience#
I have to say that the length of the work exceeds the tolerance of ordinary moviegoers. Sometimes the plot seems foolish and dragging, making it difficult to endure. When I read the novel before, I often skipped large chunks of text because the descriptions were too detailed and the plot progressed too slowly. Maybe it's because the original work was published in English, and everyone loves beautiful words and phrases? In Chinese, I didn't feel that deeply. Using long descriptions to describe the appearance of elves also made it difficult to have a sense of reality and experience the so-called sophistication of the elves.
Because the setting is very complete and the world in the drama is quite detailed, many people are fascinated by this work, but I didn't feel that deeply. It just planted a seed in my mind, a seed that embraces multiple cultures. In the future, if someone talks to me about this, I won't feel sleepy anymore.
